The Vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Glenside, Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce their approval of The Reverend Charles A. Carter, III, as Interim Rector.
Charles Carter has served as a priest in the Diocese of Pennsylvania since 1984, when he began an eleven year rectorship at St. Paul's Church, Chestnut Hill.
Since his retirement, he has served as interim rector in Phoenixville, Norwood, Coatesville, Bala Cynwyd, and Lafayette Hill. He and his wife, Sarah Heckscher, continue to live in Chestnut Hill.
Fr. Carter was born and raised in Nashville, where he attended public schools. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, and the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge.
Prior to coming to Philadelphia, he served in the Diocese of Tennessee, Florida, and New York. He was a canon Residentiary at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Manhattan from 1978 - 1984, where he was the Program officer.
Fr. Carter enjoys reading and cooking. He exercises daily "to forestall the inevitable" as he puts it, with weights, an AB - Doer, and an exercycle.
He and Sarah do most of the routine, unskilled maintenance work on their home. She gardens and mows the lawn, he rakes and bags the leaves and shovels the snow. He cleans the first floor, except for the kitchen; she cleans the second floor, except for his bathroom. "The third floor goes to pot!"
He looks forward to being the Interim Rector at St. Peter's.
