Attending Worship
Regularly joining in worship of the Wednesday, Saturday and/or Sunday services.
Acolyte
Children (age 8 and above) and adults who serve at the altar on Sunday mornings. Training is offered.
Altar Guild
Those who prepare and clear the altar for each service. Assignments are usually for one-month periods.
Choirs
The choirs offer the music ministry for the church. The Senior Choir practices on Thursday evenings at 7:15 and sings at the principal service each Sunday, and at other special services and concerts. The Junior Choir practices on Thursday evenings at 6:30 and sings approximately once a month at the principal service. The St. Cecilia Choir (children age 4 through 2nd grade) meets each Sunday morning at 11:30, and sings about once a month.
Gift required: a love for music and a willingness to learn.
Driver
Those who travel to pick up parishioners who do not otherwise have transportation to church. This is usually a once-a-month activity.
Gift required: ability to drive and a concern for elders.
Education Leader
Individuals who nurture the faith development of our youngest members and youth. Also includes facilitating adult learning during Adult Education Hour or intergenerational events. Support and training is offered by the Education Committee and staff.
Gift required: loving the questions of faith and loving those who learn.
Eucharistic Minister
Those who assist the rector at the altar, serving the chalice. Eucharistic Ministers are approved by the vestry and the bishop. Those interested may speak with the rector.
Fellowship Hour Host
Those who set up coffee and refreshments after the main service on a rotating basis, usually once every couple of months.
Gift required: hospitality or a love for entertaining.
Folk Music Group
This group provides an alternative music style for Sunday services several times a year. With regular practice, the group works on its folk style. Gift required: a musical gift and a willingness to share it joyfully.
Good Shepherd's Ministry Leader
Younger children (age 3 to 2nd grade) attend Good Shepherd's Ministry during the first half of the church service, rejoining their families at the time of communion. The leaders provide a nurturing story-based program called Godly Play, in the Montessori style. Gift required: joy and wonder in the Story and an openness to the wisdom of God in the hearts of children.
Instrumentalists
Those who play any instrument are welcomed to join special performances and pieces or play in the Folk Music Group.
Intercessor/Lay Reader
Those who lead the prayers during the services. Gift required: comfort in public speaking and a prayerful heart. Training is offered.
Lector
Those who read from the Bible during the services. Gift required: public speaking and story-telling.
Nursery Caregiver
Those who care for the infants and children up to 3 years of age during the 10:00 service and the education hour which follows. Volunteers normally serve about once every two months. One need not have young children to apply!
Saturday Assisting Minister
Members who act as an assistant to the rector during Saturday services as lector, intercessor and chalice bearer.
Saturday Musician
Individuals who accompany the Saturday service with contemporary music on guitar, piano or flute. Easy music is provided in advance.
Usher
Those who welcome and assist guests and parishioners in worship. Ushers normally serve about once every two to three months.
