The Guatemala Connection
Since 2003 St. Peter’s Church has maintained a very special relationship with five small congregations in the Northeast area of Guatemala. Linda and Frank Toia visit our companion parishes at least once a year. Members of St. Peter’s who join in these pilgrimages find them to be inspiring and life-changing adventures.
In addition to visits and other forms of communication, the companion relationship involves the following aspects:
Scholarship Program in which approximately fifty children receive partial scholarships making it possible for their families to keep them in school.
Medical Emergency Fund provided to the clergy in our companion parishes to use at their discretion to help parishioners who have no medical insurance and serious medical needs.
Guatemalan Craft sale several times a year which provides income to the St. Peter’s Companion Parish Committee for special needs.
Regular prayer for one another.
A Scholarship Family
To help with this ministry, just bring an interest in and commitment to building bridges between cultures and a concern for those who live in poverty. Spanish language is a plus but not essential.
