Parish Life
We love to have fun and be together at St. Peter's! And like most Episcopalians, this often involves eating and drinking. In addition to the regular get-togethers described below, other events are held throughout the year. We welcome friends and family to enjoy these fun gatherings with us. Watch our Home and Events pages for information on these events as they approach.
Fellowship Hour in the Parish Hall after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday mornings is a great way to get to know our members better, and for us to get to know you. Refreshments typically include coffee, lemonade and tea and light snacks such as baked goods, fruit, cheese, or other finger foods. Our dedicated team of volunteer fellowship hosts take joy in welcoming others, providing food, and serving. Being a host is a great way to introduce yourself to those you do not know well and to welcome visitors to our church. If becoming a host sounds appealing, or you would just like more information, contact Suzanne Teleha at steleha@gmail.com or Deborah Way at djway0602@aol.com. Or, to sign up for a Sunday, click on the heading above this text.
Lunch Club
On the third Wednesday of each month, we provide a luncheon in St. Peter's Parish Hall for senior citizens in our parish as well as the community. Most months we have a speaker, special program or entertainment. In the past we have had the Elmwood Zoo Traveling program, Abington High School Elite Chorus, Sing-alongs, etc. ALL ARE WELCOME as long as you RSVP the week before our luncheon. If you have questions or would like to RSVP, please contact Sue Gordon at gsgordon115@comcast.net.
St. Peter's Peeps
Sunday mornings often do not provide enough time to talk with others on a deeper, more spiritual level. Historically, St. Peter's Peeps has gathered, usually over a meal, to spend more time getting to know one another, developing stronger bonds with each other and the group as a whole. We support and love each other. All at St. Peter’s are welcome to come to our dinners, our retreat weekend, and other occasional events. Friends are also welcome. Just bring your love of St. Peter’s and all its members, your willingness to accept all for who they are, and participate as you are able. Watch the Events page for information on our upcoming get-togethers.
St. Peter's Purlers
The St. Peter's Purlers gather to do handwork while sharing our skills, enjoying each other’s company, and creating pieces that bring joy and warmth to members of our community and members of our companion churches in Guatemala. We have knitted or crocheted many prayer shawls, scarves and prayer pals (small knitted squares) that have been a blessing and a comfort to others. Our prayer shawls are blessed before they are given and have a tag that says: “Made with love and prayers by the St. Peter's Purlers of St. Peter’s Church, Glenside, PA.” If you would like to learn more about prayer shawls, visit: www.shawlministry.com. Whether you are a beginner or an old pro, you are welcome to join us. The St. Peter's Purlers meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am in the Parish Hall. Feel free to bring your lunch. For more information, contact Janice Solla at 215-407-7723 (phone calls or text messages).
Parish Picnics
St. Peter's holds a parish picnic twice a year, following Sunday worship. These services and picnics are held under a pavillion at a local park. One is usually held at the beginning of June, the other in September after the start of the school year. These are potluck events. The locations always have restroom facilities and a play area for children. Furry friends welcome.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner and Talent Show
Every year on Shrove Tuesday we hold a pancake dinner and talent show. Our youth and teens set up the parish hall and prepare the food. After we have eaten, we are treated to a talent show up on the stage, put on by members of the parish. Everyone, young or old, is invited to show off their talents (or lack thereof). Our congregation discovers many hidden gems during these shows.
Trivia Night
Trivia Night is usually held once a year. Parishioners form teams of 6 to 8 to compete in nine rounds of questions in categories ranging from local history to food to sports legends to entertainment. Members usually pick a team name and dress up or decorate their tables according to their theme. Teams bring their own snacks and drinks.
