As part of our parish’s ongoing commitment to hospitality, dignity, and care for all who enter our doors, we are formally launching our Menstrual Care Items Ministry.
You may notice that each of our church bathrooms contains a clearly labeled box marked “Menstrual Care Items.” Because our bathrooms are gender neutral, we intentionally chose language that is inclusive and respectful of all who may menstruate. In doing so, we seek to reflect the wide embrace of Christ’s love and the dignity of every person created in the image of God.
Menstrual care products are a basic health necessity, yet access to them is not always guaranteed. Period poverty refers to the inability to afford or consistently obtain menstrual products, hygiene supplies, and supportive resources needed to manage menstruation safely and with dignity. For many individuals and families, menstrual supplies become an added financial burden during already difficult times, often leading to missed school, missed work, and unnecessary hardship.
As people of faith, we are called to respond to human need with compassion and practical care. In the Gospel of Gospel of Matthew, Jesus reminds us: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…” (Matthew 25:35). This ministry is one small but meaningful way of answering that call—recognizing that dignity in daily living matters deeply to God and to the life of the Church.
In addition to stocking our own church bathrooms, donated menstrual care supplies will also be made available through our parish outreach ministries for those who utilize our food cupboard and community fridge, where essential items are often urgently needed.
We also hope to extend this ministry by sharing supplies with the Corinth 13 Afterschool Program, supporting young people and families who may face barriers in accessing these necessities.
Suggested donations include:
Pads (regular and overnight)
Tampons
Panty liners
Individually wrapped wipes
New unopened reusable menstrual products
Financial contributions are also welcome. If you would like to contribute financially, please note “Menstrual Care Items Ministry” in the memo line of your check or in the comment section of your online donation.
In the Episcopal tradition, we understand ministry not only as worship within the sanctuary, but also as care extended into the ordinary realities of daily life. Providing for practical needs is one way we embody God’s mercy in the world. By addressing a need that is often hidden or overlooked, we offer quiet reassurance that all are welcome, all are worthy of care, and no need is too small for the compassion of the Church.
This ministry reminds us that the care of body, mind and spirit belong together. May this ministry become another expression of our parish’s shared life in Christ—where hospitality, justice, and tenderness meet.
