Not long ago, we had a beautiful offering of In Christ Alone as a solo. The composers, Townend and Getty, have written so many beautiful selections that it is always tempting to choose another. This time, however, we have chosen Behold the Lamb.

The hymn was written as they discussed the need for special songs for certain moments in the Worship Service or Liturgy. When they compose, they typically seek out the scriptural references to gather as much background as possible and gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning behind each point. Their studies led them to the conclusion that there are three important aspects that take place during a Eucharistic Liturgy: remembering and celebrating Christ’s death through the receiving of the physical elements; the idea of being one in Christ, sharing one bread and one cup; and the announcement of Christ’s return.

Two of the verses contain the lyrics: "So we share in this Bread of Life, And we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of grace Around the table of the King." The third verse is especially meaningful: "As we share in His suffering, We proclaim: Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heaven Around the table of the King."

We hope these words resonate with you as you come forward to receive.
