Deacon's Corner-11.5.26
First off, please sign up for our Advent wreath-making program! This will be on Sunday, November 22nd in the parish hall after service. The sign-up sheet is posted in hard copy in the parish hall. Bring greens to use from your garden! This makes our wreaths special and helps us celebrate the bounty of our good earth. Please indicate on the sign-up sheet with a note that you will bring greens to share--Deacon Green Jeannie will bring garden gleanings to share. And, even if you don't want to build a wreath, we would still welcome your greens.
A gardener friend of mine said this a few years ago while we were welcoming an exquisite spring day: "What was I doing last fall that made me too busy to plant more daffodils?" Ever since that conversation, I have made a concerted effort to plan ahead for the planting of at least a hundred daffodils. In our zone, the planting is usually around Thanksgiving, as by then, it's cold and will be staying that way. This annual daffodil planting is among my final garden activities and, while I plant and express thanks for the season past, I can also look forward in hope to the season ahead. Then, in my gardener's imagination, I dream all winter of those daffodils sleeping beneath the snow, deep in the cold dark earth, until the sun warms the soil enough to send for their slender green fingers and then, TA-DA! All that yellow!
It's good to give thanks and then dream.
We are dreaming ahead to our February Women's Retreat! This is set for Saturday, February 20th. Our theme: "Clothed in Strength." (Proverbs 31.) Your call to action? First, sign up! Send your name to me or Debbie DeKalb (womensgroup@stpetersglenside.org) so we can add you to the list --we are expecting thirty sisters to join us. Then, save a handful of magazines or some scraps of wrapping paper for our art project. Please join us for an uplifting day of sisterhood.
