Guatemala Sunday, December 8: What to Expect During Our Annual Celebration

Updated: Nov 21

Since 2003, St. Peter’s Church has maintained a special relationship with five small congregations in the Northeast area of Guatemala. Members of St. Peter’s who have visited our beloved companions have found these pilgrimages to be inspiring and life-changing experiences.

On Sunday, December 8, we will have:

  • A slide presentation during the service, featuring photos of both our scholarship recipients and members of our companion churches

  • Special hymns and an opportunity to practice our Spanish while singing with the folk group

  • An opportunity to shop at the Guatemala Sale, with items made by women working hard to support their families at Unidas Para Vivir Mejor (United for a Better Life) (UPAVIM)

  • Coffee from Guatemala and special treats during Fellowship Hour

You are invited to contribute to our Guatemala Fund. Each year, our goal is to send funds for:

  • The Scholarship Program, which provides partial scholarships for children, enabling their families to keep them in school. Some of our earlier scholarship recipients are now in post-high school education programs!

  • The Medical Emergency Fund, which is provided to the clergy in our companion parishes to help parishioners without medical insurance who have serious health needs.

  • The Water Filtration Project, which helps provide safe drinking water to families.

Our Guatemala Committee meets periodically on Zoom and welcomes new members. We plan for the Guatemala Sale, meet with the Diocesan Guatemala Committee, and communicate with our clergy in Guatemala.

Most importantly, our committee members and Guatemala companions:

Offer prayers for one another. We also keep each other informed and commit to praying for each other during particularly difficult times.
