As part of our ongoing commitment to the health and safety of all who worship and gather in fellowship here at St. Peter’s, I want to take a moment to share important information about my role as our Parish Nurse in responding to medical emergencies during worship and parish-related events. The health and well-being of our congregation are a top priority, and we are blessed that we have parishioners who care about one another. That said, it is important to emphasize that we limit who responds during a medical emergency. It is my role as our Parish Nurse to respond, evaluate, and assess the individual as quickly as possible.
Here’s how we will respond to a medical emergency:
1. Initial Response by the Parish Nurse:
If a medical emergency arises, I will alert Rev. Barb that I am responding to the emergency and then immediately assess the situation and provide the necessary care to the individual in need.
2. Role of the Ushers:
Ushers manage the area around the emergency. Their presence is essential to maintain crowd control and to ensure the space remains calm and respectful. This will help avoid a situation that may escalate from too many people crowding around. In many emergencies, this is crucial for maintaining the individual’s privacy.
3. Calling Emergency Services:
If professional medical help is required, I will designate one of the ushers to dial 911. It’s important that this step is taken calmly and efficiently, providing emergency responders with accurate details about the situation.
4. Maintaining Privacy and Calm:
Above all, it is important to protect the privacy of the individual receiving care. Please remember that we are a community of compassion and respect, and many emergencies can be sensitive. A crowd around the individual can increase their discomfort and anxiety, so we ask that everyone respect their space and only intervene if specifically requested.
I appreciate your cooperation in making sure we handle emergencies with the utmost care and dignity for those involved. Let us continue to support one another in these times, keeping in mind that we are called to serve each other with compassion and respect. If you have any questions or concerns about emergency protocols, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
